Cookbook Club

December 21, 2011

A friend set up the Cookbook Club, she had a super year and is now going global. Well at least to London next. Check out her site in the new year and maybe get a chance to dine avec your favourite chef if you happen to be in London town.

Opinions.

There are some wonderful ones here. Andrew Zuckerman has created a film (and book) called “Wisdom” that I especially like. Some brilliant insights from some very wise people. At the risk of mentioning the “C” word, last year a few people received the book as a present. They went down very very well should you be looking for a massive stocking filler. He is also an incredible photographer as his site shows.

A book. A good one.

Just finished a really terrific fiction read about different members of staff at a newspaper. It’s really all about their private lives. Makes you wonder about what’s really going on with everyone.

Reading And Writing

September 1, 2011

Recently at the Edinburgh International Book Festival, Colm Toibin, one of Ireland’s greatest writers, gave an interview with The Guardian.

He talks about how to read aloud and make the dullest words sound interesting and how tough it is to be a writer. He also tells us his version of what pleasure really is. It’s not writing by the way.

The Wire

It really is the reason the box/flat screen/soon to be floating device/tablet etc etc was invented. The Wire is just brilliant. This we know. The follow up… a Dickensian novel version. Excellent.
